artlett Electric Cooperative is proud to offer our members an Energy Efficiency Rebate Program, “B-Green.” This program is designed to help members make energy upgrades to their homes. Members are eligible for rebates by adding insulation, performing HVAC tune-ups, and installing energy efficient heat pumps. Additionally, members can receive a $500 dollar rebate if they build an energy efficient home. For a complete list of rebates see the list below. Commercial members can also apply for rebates on bulb replacement.
CFL Exchange Program
In addition to our rebate program, Bartlett Electric Cooperative (BEC) will be offering a Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) exchange program. CFLs are designed to replace incandescent light bulbs and can fit into most existing light fixtures. CFLs will use less power and will typically have a longer life. A CFL has a higher purchase price than an incandescent lamp, but can save over approximately $30.00 in electricity costs over the lamp's life time. BEC’s exchange program will enable members to change out incandescent bulbs for CFL’s. A member may exchange up to six bulbs in their most frequently used fixtures. To exchange your light bulbs come by your nearest Bartlett Electric Cooperative Office.
Listed below are Bartlett Electric Cooperative’s current rebates:
Heat Pump Rebate
The incentive rebates for this program apply to the replacement of existing HVAC equipment at any electric-only residential home. Members are eligible to receive a $100 rebate for a 14 SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio) High Efficiency Heat Pump and a $200 rebate for a 15 SEER High Efficiency Heat Pump (or higher).
HVAC Tune-Up
A great way to start a Summer’s worth of savings is by having your HVAC unit serviced. Bartlett Electric Cooperative is pleased to offer our members a $100 rebate to make sure your unit is running at full capacity.
The HVAC tune-up must be performed by a qualified service professional. An annual HVAC tune up includes: checking and correcting the unit’s refrigerant pressure and tubing, checking and adjusting belt tension, cleaning and lubricating the indoor blower unit, replacing filters, cleaning inside the “A” coil, and checking the thermostat, wiring, and other electric parts.
Energy Star Home
An Energy Star home is 15% more energy efficient than those built to the 2004 International Residential Code (“IRC”). Members who build Energy Star Rated Homes (that closed after June 1, 2009) are eligible to receive a $500 rebate.
Ceiling Insulation
Heat is constantly gained or lost in your home’s attic and walls. Keeping temperature gain or loss to a minimum is very important. Insulation in your home is important in this process because it creates a barrier of resistance. The amount of resistance in insulating material is called its R-factor.
It is estimated that 30 percent of heat is lost through the attic or roof. It is a good idea to check the condition of your attic’s insulation. If the insulation is compressed, water damaged or does not cover the entire space of the attic, consider adding more insulation.
If your attic does not have insulation, installing recommended levels would be a wise investment. The recommended R-values for existing homes in the BEC Service Area are R38 for the ceiling and R13 for the walls. Members who upgrade to at least R38 insulation in their home can receive a $275 rebate.
Home Energy Audit for Electric Hot Water Heaters
According to the US Department of Energy, home water heating can account for 14%–25% of the energy consumed in your home. You can reduce your monthly water heating bills by selecting the appropriate water heater for your home or pool and by using some energy-efficient water heating strategies. If a member makes improvements to their water heating system, the rebates are as follows:
- Low Flow Showerhead $10.00 rebate
- Low Flow Faucets Aerator $5.00 rebate
- Water Heater Blanket $15.00 rebate (Be sure to check and see if this is approved by the manufacturer)
- Pipe Wrap $10.00 rebate
Energy Star Room Air Conditioners
Effective: January 1, 2011
Room air conditioner units are typically mounted in a window so that part of the unit is outside and part is inside. An insulated divider to reduce heat transfer losses typically separates the two sides. Window units with an Energy Efficiency Ratio of 10.8 are eligible for the ENERGY STAR® label. Members who install an ENERGY STAR® unit qualify for a $30 rebate.
Energy Star Dishwasher (Electric Water heating ONLY)
Effective: January 1, 2011
ENERGY STAR® labeled dishwashers save energy by using both improved technology for the primary wash cycle, and by using less hot water to clean. A high efficiency dishwasher can save approximately 635 gallons of water a year if used to run an average of 4 loads per week. A $15 rebate is available for installation of an ENERGY STAR® dishwasher with a rating of .65 or higher, in a home with electric water heating.
High Efficiency Water Heater
Effective: January 1, 2011
New high-efficiency storage water heaters contain higher levels of insulation around the tank, reducing standby losses. Replacement of your existing water heater to a high efficiency model of a least .94 qualifies for a $25 rebate.
COMMERCIAL and INDUSTRIAL MEMBERS
Commercial Lightning (T-8 Bulb Replacement)
Effective: January 1, 2011
Bartlett Electric Cooperative is now able to offer our commercial members an energy efficiency incentive. A variety of high efficiency fixtures, ballasts and lamps exist in the market today, producing the same amount of lumens, while consuming less electricity.
Numerous commercial and industrial buildings already have T-8 bulbs and ballasts, but are looking for a low-cost way to save energy.
BEC is now offering our commercial accounts a rebate for bulb replacement. Standard T-8 bulbs typically sold as 32 watt bulbs can be replaced with 28 watt or 25 watt bulbs to save energy immediately. We offer a $1.00 incentive to change out to a 28 watt bulb and a $1.50 incentive for a 25 watt bulb.
